Cooking is mainly used to create gifts for all the townsfolk, in order to raise their level of affection toward the player. It can also be used to make food for the purpose of Stamina recovery. Food created through Cooking cannot be sold. There is a total of 65 cooking recipes, but the Moon Dumpling recipe is only available if playing as a Girl character.

The cooking menu is accessed from the kitchen in the player's house. The kitchen becomes available with the first house upgrade. Owning a kitchen is also the prerequisite for the TV Shopping Network to sell various kitchen utensils every weekend. To order these items, use the telephone at the Inn.

Cooking Recipes (grb)

Many cooking recipes can be obtained from the townsfolk (usually after giving them just one or two gifts). Some recipes can be found while mining and fishing (these recipes are not automatically added to the available recipes in the cooking interface).

Every 14th of Winter, the girls from the town will show their appreciation to the boys by giving them gifts. These gifts may be chocolate or cakes.

During this day, if you have any girl whose heart color is at least purple, she will come to your farm and give you a gift. Check out the girls’ schedule below.

Warning! Make sure to stay on the farm on this day to receive the gifts! Talk to the girls when they arrive to receive their presents. They will walk away if you don’t speak to them, and you will miss your chance to get chocolate.

Don’t forget to give gifts to girls and raise their affection before Winter. You will receive a different gift from each girl depending on how much they like you. Girls with black hearts will not come to your farm.

Tip: You can reduce the girls’ affection to blue or purple by giving them their hated gifts like stones, branches, or weeds. Keep reducing their affection level to blue or purple before the 14th of Winter to receive chocolate from them.

If you are already married, the Winter Thanksgiving Festival will not happen. Your wife will instead give you a chocolate type item on this day.

The only way to get chocolate after marriage is to reduce your wife’s affection level to blue or purple. Giving her things that she hates will quickly reduce her affection level. She will then put a chocolate inside your rucksack while you are sleeping.

You can use chocolate in cooking chocolate cookies and chocolate cakes. You need at least two chocolates to cook these recipes and to finish the recipe collection in Harvest Moon Back to Nature.
