This Strawberries 1st Birthday Party might be one of my all-time favorites! I just can not get enough of the strawberries, the pink and flowers... I just love, love, LOVE this theme!
I must mention that I don't love my photos of this cake. This was done back in early 2014 when I was still learning new things about my camera. Truth be told, I'm
To do to get this grainy dark look. Oh well... I couldn't resist sharing the pics - even if they're not my best!
Strawberry Birthday Cake Pops (no Bake!)
The cake was 7 and 9 tiers. The top tier was white cake - the bottom was strawberry cake. It was covered and decorated with homemade marshmallow fondant. I used my pearl mold for the borders and then this Martha Stewart mold for the strawberries.
The flowers were made with these little flower plunger cutters and I used leaf cutters from the Wilton Gum Paste Flowers set.
Next up - the smash cake. It was a single layer 6 round cake. It was white cake covered in pink vanilla buttercream. I used my pearl mold again for the border and the same strawberry mold and flower and leaf cutters mentioned for the big cake above.
Strawberry Cake Pops
Strawberry Cake Pops... I thought these would be SO fun. I was wrong. They were hard. I had to hand-roll each cake ball into the strawberry shape and it took forever
I was never happy with them. I made a terrible mess dipping them in red and then worse than terrible when I tried to add the white dots (ie., seeds).
If I stepped back and looked at them, they were okay, but I was really sad that I couldn't make them as cute as they were in my head. I used a small star cutter to do the green strawberry top plus a tiny flower plunger cutter to add the little white flowers. I was trying to up the cute factor so all the flaws wouldn't be so obvious.
Homemade] Strawberry Cake Pop
If the strawberry cake pops were my least favorite thing - the cookies might have been my most favorite. I'm not a cookie decorator... but I was really proud of how these came out! I used my favorite rolled sugar cookie dough recipe here and then decorated them with royal icing.
What I remember most was being in full panic-mode because I had ordered a strawberry cookie cutter for these cookies and it didn't show up in time for me to use it. I had no idea what I was going to do - but hand-cutting a whole bunch of strawberry cookies did not appeal to me.
I am always in admiration Callye over at Sweet Adventures of Sugar Belle and how she uses one cookie cutter to make a totally different thing (like PB&J sandwiches with a dog bone cutter... hello!?). So I dug through my hundreds of cutters and found an acorn cutter... voila... a strawberry! I think I actually liked these better than the strawberry cutter that I had on order... WIN!
