When planning a Disney princess themed party for my friend's daughter, I helped by making Disney princess cake pops for all the guests. To turn regular cake pops into 3D princesses, I created some fun cake pop toppers to add to the sticks. What a big impact from such a small little touch.

Disney

Our set of Disney Princess cake pop toppers includes printable toppers for 14 Disney princesses: Belle, Arial (The Little Mermaid), Cinderella, Elena of Avalor, Rapunzel, Mulan, Snow White, Jasmine, Pocahontas, Tiana, Anna, Elsa, Aurora (Sleeping Beauty), and Merida.

Printable Princess Cake Pop Tags

Contains printable toppers to add to your cake pops (or cupcakes). Includes Includes 14 characters (Belle, Ariel, Cinderella, Elena, Rapunzel, Mulan, Snow White, Jasmine, Pocahontas, Tiana, Anna, Elsa, Aurora, and Merida)

As a bonus, we also include a mirror-image version of every page above, so you can create double-sided toppers if you want. (Just tape a forward-facing and reverse-facing topper together.)

Before you can add the toppers, you first need to make cake pops. The first step is to bake (or buy) a cake and crumble it into a bowl.

Then add a dollop of frosting. Be careful not to add too much at once, or you'll ruin it. Start with a little, and you can always add more later if you need.

You'll know you have it right when you can gently squeeze it together and it doesn't fall apart, but doesn't stick to your hand, either.

As you make your cake pops, take a moment to hold up one of the toppers to be sure you have the scale and size correct. When they are done, put the cake pops into the freezer to firm up.

Print the Disney Princess cake pop toppers onto white cardstock and cut them out. (You should actually do this well ahead of time, because the delicate toppers will take a while to cut out.)

When the cake pops are firm, remove them from the freezer. Dip a 6 lollipop stick into a little bit of melted colored chocolates (a.k.a. candy melts) and stick it into the top of the cake pop. The chill of the cake will set the chocolate almost instantly, and your stick will be nice and secure in the pop.

Then dip each pop into the appropriate color of melted chocolates to coordinate with the skirt of the princess(es) you are making.

When the chocolate is set and hardened, it's time to add the toppers. Line up the topper so that the princess' waist fits the skirt.

If you want to create double-sided toppers, also print/cut the mirror-image version of the princess (every page in the set has forward and reverse images) and use double-sided tape to attach it to the back, taking care to line it up with the first piece.

Whether you choose to create all 14 Disney princesses or just one or two favorites, these cake pops are sure to be a hit at your party.

Prior to dipping, make sure your candy melt is a nice, smooth, and runny consistency. You can achieve this by slowly melting your candy (microwave or melting pot) and stirring in shortening ½ teaspoons at a time.

Insert your pre-dipped stick into your cake ball and allow the candy to set before dipping the entire ball into your candy melt.

Once your inserted cake ball is at room temperature (which avoids cracks in your candy coating), fully submerge your cake ball into your candy melt and tap any excess candy back into your bowl.

Place the freshly coated cake ball directly on top of a candy wafer and let dry. (By allowing the cake pop to set on top of a candy wafer, you avoid the risk of cake peeping through the bottom and helps make for straighter standing cake pops.)

Once your cake pops have dried, you can then tape the backside of your tags to the lollipop sticks so that they line up with the Disney Princesses ® images.

I hope you enjoy creating your fun and cute Disney Princesses ® cake pops for the favorite little princess in your life!

Here are some I made recently for my daughter’s Disney princess themed birthday party.

For the cake ball mixture I followed Bakerella’s recipe, which is for 48 cake pops, but halved the ingredient quantities to just make 24 pops.

I baked a 6″ round cake and used most of it. Plus about 7 oz frosting (buttercream). You can find the recipe for 48 pops by doing a simple Google search for “Bakerella cake pop recipe.”

Roll the mixture into balls, I did mine a bit less than 1 inch in diameter, and place on a baking sheet covered with wax paper.

Place the balls into the freezer for no more than 15 minutes, then put them in the refrigerator until you’re ready to use them.

For the crowns, I rolled out some pink rolled fondant (sugarpaste) and cut it into a crown shape. Roll it round into a crown, then leave it to harden. Once it’s dry, you can stick some edible glitter on using sugar glue or melted candy melts.

To cover the cake pops you’ll need candy melts, which come in a variety of different colors. I used white candy melts and mixed in pink coloring, adding more to make deeper shades of pink as I went along. You’ll need approximately 1 oz of melts for each cake pop you’re going to make.

Follow the instructions on the candy melts packaging to melt them. Use a deep a bowl as possible to make it easier for dipping.

Get a lollipop stick and dip the end into the melted candy melts, then insert it into a cake ball, about half way.

Dip the entire cake pop into the bowl of candy coating, and remove in one go, without stirring if possible. The whole of the ball needs to be covered. If the coating is too thick, add a few drops of vegetable oil or shortening. Let any excess coating fall off into the bowl. Make sure that the coating has reached the lollipop stick so that the cake ball is secure.

For the princess pops I colored some candy melt mixture a deeper shade of pink and put it into a piping bag. I then piped the word “princess” around the cake ball, and stuck one of the crowns I’d made earlier on top.

For the sparkly hearts, I made the cake balls into heart shapes. After rolling the mixture into a ball, I pushed it into a heart shaped cutter, then placed in the freezer/refrigerator as before. Straight after dipping in the melted candy I dipped into a plate of sprinkles (you need to work very quick here!)

For the swirly cake pops I colored some candy melt mixture a deeper shade of pink and piped it onto each cake pop. On some I stuck little sugar flower shapes as I went along, before the swirls dried.

The wheels need to be done at least a day in advance. Using modeling paste (rolled fondant mixed with CMC powder or gum tragacanth), or Mexican paste / flower paste, you need to roll out a long thin sausage of paste. Shape it round into wheel shapes and leave to dry.

Once completely dry, stick the wheel support onto the back of each wheel so it holds them together (use sugar glue, royal icing or melted candy melts). Allow that to dry.

The trickiest bit  is to get the wheels stuck onto the cake pop! I found royal icing worked best, although you can use melted candy melts
