To make the cake, cream the unsalted butter and the caster sugar for approximately 5 minutes until it turns pale and fluffy. Mix 1 teaspoon vanilla extract into the creamed butter and sugar.

Add the eggs, one at a time, mixing well between each addition. Add half the self-raising flour and then half the milk and mix until fully combined. Repeat with the remaining flour and milk.

To make the cake pops, remove the crust of the cake with a sharp kitchen knife and crumble the vanilla cake finely into a large mixing bowl.

Once you have crumbled the cake, add in one heaped tablespoon of Renshaw Vanilla Frosting at a time and mix with the crumbs. You may not require all of the frosting, depending on how moist your cake is, so use a little at a time. Keep mixing until you have a fudge-like texture. To see if it's ready, squeeze a little of the mixture in your palm – it should be pliable and not crumble. If you add too much frosting the mixture will be soggy, sticky and heavy and the cake pops will fall off the cake pop lollipop stick when you try to dip them in the Colour Melts.

Wrap the cake pop mixture in cling film and chill for at least one hour. The mixture should be firm but not too hard when it's ready to work with.

Break off a small piece of the mixture and roll into a ping pong sized ball with your palms, then elongate them by rolling them into egg shapes. Place the cake eggs on a tray lined with baking paper. Refrigerate for 15 to 20 minutes, or until they are firm.

Take each long cake pop lollipop stick and dip one end 2cm deep into the one of the three melted colour melts. Immediately insert the stick into the centre of each cake ball, stopping the lollipop stick half way through. Place on a tray lined with baking paper for 1 to 2 minutes to set.

Take each cake pop on a stick and dip fully into either the pink, white, red, blue or green colour melts. When dipping, be sure to cover right to the top of the stick to secure the cake pop in place. Gently tap the cake pop over the bowl to remove any excess colour melt.

Knead and roll out Renshaw Jade Green and Duck Egg Blue Ready to Roll Icing on a clean dry work surface lightly dusted with icing sugar to approximately 2mm.

Using a butterfly plunger cutter, cut out 25 butterfly shapes out of the two icing colours and leave each to set in an apple tray or egg carton. Can you believe it? The sun is out, the flowers are bright, and the butterflies are about to make a grand entrance. I have always loved Monarch butterflies because they remind me of warm summer days. So I thought this gorgeous simple cake pop would be perfect to kick start summer.

First I Googled “butterfly outline” and drew a sketch onto my blank piece of paper. I separated the wings just a bit so that when I piped out the chocolate the wings would be two separate pieces.

Next I tossed some milk chocolate and orange chocolate into sandwich bags and melted them in the microwave at half power for about 30 seconds. Yes – you can melt it right in the baggie!

Moving rather quick take a tooth pick and drag the chocolate into the orange chocolate. If you wait too long the chocolate will start to harden and you won’t get this effect.

While those dried I rolled out my cake pop dough a tad larger than normal. I also made them slightly into an oval shape instead of the typical round cake pop.

I then stuck the cake pop stick in at an angle. I did this so we have more space to add the wings without the stick getting in the way.

Spring

Once the cake pops have dried slowly peal the wax paper from the wings and using some chocolate “glue” the wings into place.

For the first wing I put the chocolate onto the underside and held it in place on the cake pop, then i put a dab of chocolate onto the cake pop next to it and place the other wing into it. It only takes a few seconds for it to harden.

Spring it HERE! Spring is here! It was a beautiful day here in West Virginia. The kids were outside running and playing and having a great time in the sunshine. The brown is giving way to fresh green, pops of yellow and various shades of pink and orange. I love all that spring has to offer, so I made some beautiful Butterfly Cake Pops with the colors of spring!

These are easy cake pops to make. Basic round cake pops dipped in green and then candy use a mold to make the butterflies and flowers.

You can personalize the flowers in any color that you want. Look for fun molds in your local craft store. I used this Martha Stewart Flower Garden Mold

Spring/butterfly Cake Pops For Any Occasion. No Shipping June

So, what are you plans for the Spring? Got any gardening plans? Vacation plans? Staycation plans? We are heading out to the North Carolina mountains in a few days with grandma and I’m looking forward to getting out of town (again).

To make the two-toned butterflies, I rubbed one color of candy melts into the veins of the butterfly then filled in the mold with the second color. Pop the mold into the freezer for 5 minutes then carefully remove the mold.

You can prepare a bunch of butterflies and flowers and attach them as you dip the pops or you can dip all of the pops then attach the decorations with a but if melted chocolate.
