How To Make Cookie Dough Balls

Is there anything in the world that’s better than cookie dough? It is definitely one of my favorite foods but words out that regular cookie dough is not safe to eat for a number of reasons.

We’ve all heard of the possibility of salmonella in raw eggs but more recently there have been e. coli scares in raw flour. Yikes. I remember getting recalls in some of the flour I purchased just last year because of that possibility.

I’m not going to lie though, I’m still dumb and live on the edge and eat (small amounts) of raw cookie dough (which obviously I don’t recommend) but when I want to eat a lot, and when I want to serve it at a party or to my kids then I’m all about this edible cookie dough!

Yes baking the flour first adds more time but it heats it to that temperature past 160 degrees where e. coli couldn’t survive. All this bacteria talk though is such a drag.

Let’s talk more about these delicacies! They taste just like cookie dough but instead of egg they have half and half (or cream).

So they are rich and oh so irresistible. And of course they have plenty of chocolate chips because that’s a main highlight of cookie dough. I like to add two kinds but use what you have.

And if you don’t have the patience, skip rolling them into balls and eat the dough straight from the bowl by the spoonful!

My kids even found my hidden stash in the freezer and have been eating them frozen. My one daughter said she thaws them under water (lol, gross). I told you though, no one can resist.

But for the edible chocolate chip cookie dough, all credit goes to my daughter, Jersey, for the sweet recipe. She loves to make them and, at this point, has perfected the recipe.

In a medium-sized bowl, sift together brown sugar, granulated sugar, powdered sugar, flour, and cornstarch. Beat in melted butter and vanilla extract until it starts to come together, the dough will resemble coarse crumbs.

Add in milk, 1 tablespoon at a time, until it is easier to work with and you get the consistency you want.

I use a 3/4″ cookie scoop to make the balls. That way, they are all the same size. If you don’t have a cookie scoop, you can scoop a heaping tablespoon.

The best way to form them is to pack in the dough and then remove from the scooper or tablespoon and place them on the prepared pan.

You can also roll them into balls, but I find sometimes the balls fall apart easily if I press too hard. Place pan in the refrigerator for the bites to chill for approximately 10 minutes.

While the dough is chilling, melt chocolate according to package directions. I heat it in 30-second intervals until the chocolate is completely melted. Our favorite dipper chocolate is the Ghiradelli’s hardening chocolate that is available at Kroger or Safeway

Decorate with the chocolate how you could like, I like to dip the tops in, then sprinkle with mini-colored chocolate chips. The kids like a light drizzle which is easy to do by placing the melted chocolate in a Ziploc bag with the corner snipped off, topped off with a few sprinkles. Although my daughter, Jersey loves them plain.

We seem to find any reason to indulge in these Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Bites. I think you will, too! Make them for you, your family, or make a batch and give them away. Each bite is a sweet one that no one can resist.
