How To Make Bunny Ears For Cake Pops

I’m a little behind on posting this week. I started making the sweetest cake pops on Sunday and had to detour from photographing them so I could work on my taxes. Boring! But I had to get ready for an appointment the next day which meant diving into a big stack of paperwork that I’ve been building on… all year. And avoiding. Yuck-o-rama! And definitely not as much fun as cake pops.

I’ve made bunny cake pops before with pastel candy corn and also with pipe cleaners (really, really cute), but oh my – these jordan almonds bunnies are too much. I think these might be my favorite ears, but let me know yours if you look at the other bunny links.

Easter

Bunnies are like snowmen to me. I want to make them again and again and again. There’s so many ways to make them look different and still super cute.

I made the bunny heads with more of an oval shape. And before I chilled the balls, I used an almond to make impressions on the top. That way when you dip, the ears will look like part of the head instead of sitting on top of it.

I used a few sprinkles for the faces, but keep in mind you can also just pipe them on with candy coating for a simpler approach.

Oh yeah, I made cake pop tags for you too if you’d like to download them for your pops or even for cupcake toppers.

Sweet Table} Easter Candy Bar + Bunny Cake Pops Tutorial

This bunny was inspired by these ice cream cone sweet tarts. These are the kind of unique candy/sprinkles I like to snatch up as soon as I see them. I usually have no idea at the time what I’ll use them for but I know at some point they’ll come in handy for something.

I used the almonds again for ears, the pink rainbow chip sprinkles for noses, mini marshmallows for feet and arms, green daisy sprinkles and orange ice cream candy… you guessed it … for carrots.you love this Easter. With the candy melt coating and simple 3D features, these pops are as easy to make as they are adorable.

Test the dough consistency by rolling a bit into a ball and pushing a cake pop stick into it. If the cake pop cracks, the mix is too dry — add a little more buttercream and test again.

Roll the dough into equal-sized egg shapes and leave on a flat surface. If you want to make sure they’re all equally sized, weigh each ball on a digital scale.

Melt a few (not all) white candy melts. Dip a lollipop stick into the melted candy melts and gently push it into the middle of a cake pop ball. Repeat for all cake pop balls, placing them onto a cookie sheet lined with wax paper. Place them in the refrigerator to chill until firm.

How

Pro Tip: Don’t melt all your candy melts quite yet. The cake pops can take a few hours to chill, and you don’t want the melts to dry out in the meantime. Only melt enough so you can add the lollipop sticks until you’re ready to move on.

Once the pops are firm, melt the rest of your candy melts. (We recommend using a full 12 oz bag to coat 20 pops.) When melted, add a small amount of Crisco, oil or paramount crystals to give the melts a smoother consistency.

Gently dip each cake pop into the melted candy melts. Don’t swish them around, as this can cause the cake pop to fall off the stick. When coated, let the excess drip off and place the pops onto wax paper to harden.

Roll out pink fondant and mold it the same way you did for the white ears (just use less fondant). Indent the center of the white ears with a modeling tool to make space for the pink fondant. Adhere the pink to the white with a small amount of excess candy melts or edible glue.

Use more candy melts or edible glue to secure the ears to the cake pop on either side of the lollipop stick.

Roll out some pink fondant and use the tiny heart plunger cutter to cut out one heart per pop. Add a dab of candy melts to the heart and secure above and in between the cheeks as the bunny’s nose.
