It’s time to get back in the swing of things like chocolate. January, the month of purifying oneself from the holidays sins (
) is almost over and although that doesn’t mean that I will stop sharing dinner recipes, let’s turn our attention briefly to handfuls of raw cookie dough.
If it helps, they taste and sound so much more disastrous to your waistline than they actually are. To be clear, if you make these protein bites, you will not be gnawing on actual raw cookie dough – it will just taste like you are. It only takes three ingredients (we’re not counting salt, right? right.): nut butter, protein powder and chocolate chips.
Chickpea Cookie Dough Balls
You know what I’m going to say next, right: since the recipe calls for so few ingredients, make sure you choose the best ones you can get your hands on. I tried this with almond butter, peanut butter and – for a nut free alternative – sunflower butter. All three were delicious, so it really boils down to what flavor you prefer. The protein powder does the lion’s share of the work in terms of making the bites taste like actual cookie dough, go with a vanilla powder that you already know you like the taste of.
I used Now Foods’s vanilla egg white protein powder, which has a wonderful vanilla flavor and is lightly sweetened with stevia, so I didn’t add any sweetener. **Edited to add: Yes, you can use
Vanilla protein powder you like or have handy. It doesn’t have to be egg white-based** Depending on its level of sweetness, you certainly can add some granulated sweetener of your choice, or a few drops of liquid stevia, if you want to. Do not use honey or maple syrup, because there is nothing in the recipe to absorb the extra moisture.
Healthy Cookie Dough Peanut Butter Protein Balls
Ok, I’m going to stop now because I am really overthinking this. I have now written more paragraphs than there are ingredients in this recipe or minutes required to make it. All you need to know is that these protein bites are reasonably un-sinful (so, they’re perfect if you’re tapering off of a new year’s detox and need a treat), they taste like cookie dough but aren’t cookie dough, and they are terribly, terribly addictive – in the best way.

Cookie Dough Protein Balls With Chocolate Chips (gluten Free)
Hi hi hi. Welcome back to 2016. Totally kidding! Today, I'm updating one of my most popular recipes for you. This recipe isn't just your favorite, it's mine too! I find myself making these at least 3 times a month. I can't help it; they literally taste like cookie dough. If you haven't tried these yet, now is the time.
The good news is that these are made from 6 basic ingredients. The even better news is that you don't need to turn on your oven. The great news is that these only take 10-15 minutes to make.
These are one of those feel good snacks as I like to call it. Whether it's an on-the-go, before a workout, or just to satisfy your sweet tooth without grabbing a slice of cake; these satisfy it all. These can easily be made in bulk; place the excess in the freezer for up to 3 months and thaw overnight in the refrigerator. One of my favorite ways to eat these are crumbled over yogurt.
Peanut Butter Oatmeal Protein Balls For Kids
The cookie dough protein bites are 100% gluten free, dairy free, and vegan. And if that wasn't making them the best already, these are also made in just 1 bowl. I'm all for easy clean up.
These cookie dough protein bites combine simple ingredients that can be adapted for any flavor preferences and/or allergies. The ingredients are stirred together in 1 large bowl and then rolled into balls. You'll need:
For this recipe, I also like to add 1/4-1/3 cup chocolate chips; I prefer the mini chocolate chips to get more in each. Feel free to leave them out completely if you're one of the pick around the chocolate chips in cookies. 😉
Peanut Butter Protein Balls (no Food Processor!)
I've received a lot of questions about making in bulk and freezing these, so here's how I do it. When making in bulk, you can double or triple this recipe easily.
I like to freeze the cookie dough protein bites in the small bags because they only last 1 week in the refrigerator so having the smaller amount reduces the need to toss if they didn't get eaten. Some weeks I eat more than others so thawing makes it easy!
As you can see, this is a SUPER easy recipe for a quick snack. It not only saves money— store-bought have a hefty price tag! But these are a great healthier alternative. Let me know if you've tried these and/or have made your own variations!
