Contrary to popular belief, cake pops are actually incredibly easy to make! What initially got me hooked on these little lollipop cakes, was Starbucks.

Starbucks Cake Pops can easily be recreated at home, with only 3 ingredients. The secret is making cake pops with regular cake mix.

I remember the first time I made these I was so nervous. I went on a hunt for a cookie scoop, icing sugar, flour, butter, vanilla extract, baking powder, and chocolate chips all at different grocery stores.

The next time I made them I saved myself a lot of time by buying a boxed cake mix. This is a great way to make your life more simple, and I will never go back to my first attempt method.

Easy Cake Pop Bars

The inside of the cakes pops is a combination of cake mixed with frosting, which gives it the gooey soft texture. The cake pop frosting is simply melted chocolate wafers. Add sprinkles if you wish, and you’ve got yourself the best cake pop recipe!

I’m going to show you two ways on how to make cake pops. Or as some may like to call it, lollipop cakes.

The first is by using a standard cake mix or leftover cake and mixing it in with enough frosting. Then chilling the dough to make cold cake balls, and sticking them into cake pop sticks or popsicle sticks.

Vanilla Cake Pops From Scratch

Once you have your cake pop ball, you then dip it into melted candy. You will get rid of excess chocolate and allow it to solidify before eating.

The other way to make them is by using cake pop molds. This is where you would add the cake pop batter to a round pan and it would form the cake into donut holes.

Beat cake mix, water, oil, and eggs in a bowl. Pour the batter into a greased 9×13-inch baking dish or two 8×8-inch round cake dishes and bake in a 350 degree F oven until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Cake Pops

Let the cake cool completely, then crumble it with a fork in a large bowl or in the baking dish. Stir the frosting into the crumbled cake, cover, and freeze until chilled.

It’s easier to roll the cake & frosting mixture into perfectly round balls if it’s cold. The cake & frosting mixture is super moist, and at room temperature it makes it extremely difficult to shape them perfectly.

Once they have been frozen, I give them another little roll to smooth out the sides. Then place on a baking sheet.

Easy Cake Pop Recipe

Melt candy melts in the microwave or in a double boiler. Dip each lollipop stick into the white chocolate, then stick into one of the cake pop balls.

Gently dip the balls into the melted chocolate or spoon the chocolate onto balls and twirl to coat. Decorate with sprinkles if desired.

The best way to allow the coating to dry and set– without ruining the perfectly round cake pop– is to place them upright in a styrofoam block, or a box to harden. There you have it, you have easy cake pops!

The best part about making cake pops is you can use leftover cake crumbs, and mix it in with a small amount of icing and they come out great! You can also customize them but using a gluten free cake mix to make gluten free cake pops.

Make sure your cake pops are cold enough before adding the frosting! If they are not cold enough they will change their shape and start to melt once you start trying to frost.

DO NOTuse too much frosting inside the cake pop. Typically the more frosting the better on traditional cakes, at least in my opinion, but in cake pops this is not the case.

The best way to store pre made cake pops is to place them in an airtight container with a paper towel lining the bottom of the container. They will stay fresh for a couple days on the counter, but for best results I recommend storing them in the refrigerator.

How To Make Cake Pops (easy And Fool Proof)

Today I’m sharing these cookie dough pops as a token of my gratitude, and I think they’re a great choice for celebrating three years of cookie dough and sprinkles.

Cookie Dough Pops are similar to cake pops in their appearance, but they’re quite simple to make.  The first thing you’ll want to do is prepare your cookie dough, roll it into balls, and then chill it.

Chilling the dough is important so that the dough doesn’t melt when you dip it into your chocolate, but you don’t want the cookie dough to be 

How To Make Cake Pops

Cold, or it can cause the chocolate to crack as it sets (I discovered this issue when I made my Oreo balls!).

For dipping,  and to help the cookie dough adhere to it you should dip each stick just about half an inch into your melted chocolate before spearing your cookie dough.

I recommend using melting wafers (you can use regular chocolate or white chocolate!) for this recipe because the chocolate coats smoothly and solidifies quickly, but you still will need a place to set your cookie dough pops while the chocolate hardens.

Tricks To Stop Cake Pops From Falling Off Sticks

Ideally you shouldn’t lay them down on wax paper or a cooling rack because they’ll end up with uneven sides or unattractive marks in the chocolate, so I recommend using a small box or piece of styrofoam and using a knife to make small holes over the surface and then standing your cake pops up in the prepared holes while the chocolate sets.

Do make sure that whatever you are using will actually support the cookie dough pops once you’ve added the heavy cookie dough to the end of the sticks!

The first time I did this, my shoebox refused to hold the pops and they all fell on top of each other, which was so frustrating, to say the least!!

Once more very important thing to note: while these cookie dough pops are made egg free, there have been E. coli outbreaks linked to consuming raw flour.
