Cake Gender Reveal

This gender reveal cake is a great idea for disclosing the gender of someone’s upcoming bundle of joy! It’s made of three layers of moist and deliciousvanilla cake dyed with food coloring, and frosted with easy, creamy vanilla buttercream.

I recently made this gender reveal cake for a good friend of mine who’s having a baby boy. I used blue dye instead of pink, but it works just the same. My heart was racing as I watched her slice into the cake – I remember the excitement of finding out the gender of my baby and was so excited for her. The cake was a hit and it was the perfect way to disclose the gender – she’s over the moon about her upcoming baby!

This ombre cake is my favorite gender reveal cake idea. It’s so pretty, yet simple! The cake is a moist, delicious vanilla cake and the frosting is my classic buttercream recipe.

Gender Reveal Buttercream Simple Cake

I use a delicious, moist vanilla cake batter and divide the cake batter into three bowls. I like to dye each layer with a different amount of the same food coloring to give the final result an ombre effect. For baby girl gender reveal cakes, I use this soft pink gel food coloring, but you can also find it in blue (or whatever color you want to dye your cake).

This dye is very concentrated, so a tiny drop of it was all I needed to get the color I wanted for the first bowl of batter. Then, I add a bit more food coloring to the second bowl until I like the color, and did the same with the third bowl, creating three distinct pink colors.

To make things even simpler, you can dye the entire batter using the same color (adjust the coloring to your liking) and divide the batter into three. This will also make a gorgeous cake.

This recipe makes enough cake batter for a three layer 9-inch cake. If you want to make a three layer 6-inch cake, divide the cake recipe by 2. You’ll just need to adjust the baking time. Smaller cakes mean less baking, so start checking them for doneness at around 20 minutes. If using 6-inch round pans, I suggest making 3/4 of the amount of buttercream if you want thick layers of frosting like you see in the photos.

With that in mind, I wanted it to be super evident what color was inside the cake as soon as it was sliced. To achieve this, I used colorful ombre cake layers and filled the cake matching sprinkles and candy.

I don’t love the societal expectations that come along with gender reveals, but I do think finding out the assigned gender of a baby is a big milestone and special moment to share with your loved ones.

The first step is to use a 2-inch circle cutter to remove the center from the two middle cake layers. If you’re making ombre cake layers, this means you should leave the darkest and lightest cake layer uncut.

Cake Topper Boy Or Girl

As you stack and frost your cake layers, you should have a nice little cavity in the center of your cake after adding the third layer.

Fill the opening with a matching pink or blue sprinkle blend. Then seal all that goodness in by topping the cake with the lightest, uncut cake layer.

You can also fill the cake with other matching candies like jelly beans, skittles, or gummy candy. It does take a bit of time to separate the candy, but I love the look it gives the filling.

How To Make A Gender Reveal Cake

If you want to color the layers in an ombre fashion like I did, I’m going to share my favorite (and the easiest) way to do it!

Rather than dividing the batter into four bowls and making loads of dishes, you can color the batter right in your mixing bowl!

Add a small squirt of either pink or blue gel food coloring in the bowl and stir just until the batter is evenly colored. Scoop 440 grams of batter into one of the prepared pans.

While I love making this gender reveal cake following the recipe below, I know you might not have all of the ingredients on hand. Or if you have food allergies or restrictions, I’ve got you covered.

This recipe can also be used to make different sized cakes. You can also half or double the ingredients to make a half or double batch!

One batch of battercan be also be used to make one9×13-inch sheet cake. Bake it at 325 F for 40-50 minutes and use flower nails or heating cores to help the cake bake evenly.

You can also use this recipe to make a Bundt cake! Bake time can vary based on the size and type of pan you use, and can take anywhere from 45-75 minutes.

I recommend using a toothpick to test for doneness and checking on it every 5-10 minutes once it’s been in the oven for 45 minutes.

The final variation of this recipe is cupcakes!! This recipe makes about 36 regular sized cupcakes. Fill 3/4 full and bake for 17-19 minutes or until a toothpick comes out with a few moist crumbs.

Make your frosting ahead of time too, or save any leftover frosting! It can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to a month, or in the freezer for up to 3 months. Be sure to give it a good stir once it thaws to get the consistency nice and smooth again.

A frosted cake can last in the fridge for up to a week, or in the freezer for up to a month. The buttercream locks in all the moisture, keeping the cake fresh and delicious!

I always try and use metric system when making cakes, in most of your recipes you say 3 cups flour = 390 g, but I think 3 cups of flour = 360 g. Can you clarify which it is. Modern Gender Reveal Cakes That Use Pink And Blue Judiciously. Phew

Den Boden von 2 gleich großen Backformen/Springformen (Durchmesser: 17, 5-20 cm) mit Backpapier auslegen.Backofen auf 180° Ober-/Unterhitze vorheizen. Für die ersten 2 Böden nimmt man also die Hälfte der Zutaten: 280g Mehl, 140g Zucker und 1 Päckchen Backpulver in eine Schüssel sieben. Nun 1 TL Vanilleextrakt/-paste, 200 g Sprudelwasser, 50g Sonnenblumenöl und 1 Ei dazu geben und nur so lange miteinander verrühren, bis sich alle Klümpchen gelöst haben. Die Hälfte des Teiges in eine andere Schüssel füllen. Nun kann man die beiden Teige mit Lebensmittelfarbe unterschiedlich intensiv einfärben (2 Tropfen, 4 Tropfen, 6 Tropfen usw.). Die Teige in die beiden vorbereiteten Backformen füllen und auf mittlerer Schiene für ca. 22 Minuten backen. Am Besten mit der Stäbchenprobe testen, ob der Kuchen durchgebacken ist. Die Böden etwa 20 min abkühlen lassen. Dann vorsichtig aus der Form lösen und den Schritt 1 für die nächsten beiden Böden wiederholen.

Die weiche Butter mit einer Prise Salz in einer leistungsstarken Küchenmaschine für etwa 5 Minuten aufschlagen, bis sie deutlich heller und cremiger ist. Nun die gesüßte Kondensmilch im dünnen Strahl zu der Butter fließen lassen
